Lil Man – Updated

Sorry it’s taken so long to post an update about Lil Man’s foot. As a recap, we took him to the doctor on Thursday afternoon to have a place on his foot checked out. Turns out the doctor he saw believes it is a wart of some sort but his concern was with all of the infection built up around it. Dr. B opened up the top of the spot and helped the infection to all drain then he cut away the lose skin and such then put some antibiotic ointment and a band-aid on it. He said to keep it covered with ointment and a bandage for two week then bring him back so he could take a look at it and decide if it was something he needed to remove.  Lil Man was an absolute angel through the whole thing.  He didn’t even offer to make a sound until Dr. B put a band-aid over the open wound then Lil Man decided he wanted to whine.  His little foot was sore for a bit, but by Friday morning he was just fine. It seems to be healing well so we’ll wait and see what the Dr says in a couple of weeks.

Long Weekend and Such

In about one hour I’m outta the office and on my way to a much needed long weekend. My hope is that it will be as inviting and relaxing as I’m in need of.  We aren’t planning on going anywhere or doing anything major. With the increase in gas prices and food prices we can’t really afford to endeavor a big adventure but we can find plenty right here in our little home town to keep us occupied.

We do have one thing this afternoon that may throw a ringer in our ability to do much of anything this weekend but hopefully it will only be a temporary setback and we’ll be able to get back on track quickly.  Lil Man has an appointment with a Podiatrist this afternoon.  Several weeks ago he got what looked like a little blister on the back of his foot.  It soon turned into a little place that resembled a callus only it continued to grow and got really hard.  At Lil Man’s 15 month checkup we showed it to his doctor and Dr C felt like it wasn’t too much to be concerned with and suggested that we soak his foot in warm water to soften up the spot and then try to scrape it off … much like you would a callus.  We tried that a couple of times but the spot refused to come off or break free.  We left it alone. We decided that medical intervention was needed and we would just keep an eye on it until his checkup in July and have Dr C remove it then. Well … over this past weekend it started doing some really funky stuff and looked BAD.  Lil Man would favor the outside of his foot when he walked and seemed to be limping a bit so I made an appointment with Dr B who is a Podiatrist who specializes in children’s foot needs.  Whatever this mystery spot is, it has really started bothering Lil Man. He favors his left foot, walks on the outside of his right foot, and at times he will just sit down and rub his foot like he is in pain.  Today hopefully that will all stop and we’ll finally find out what this mystery spot is … and get it taken care of.  Here’s a shot of what it looks like … I’ll try to update when we figure out what’s going on.

Whatever could it be?

Hope everyone has an awesome fun filled Memorial Day weekend!!

ER – The Season Finale

What an endingDo you watch ER? I do and I have for … well … how long has it been on? Sometimes it’s really exciting, other times it leaves me wondering why I lost an hour of sleep. Last night, however I was left anxious … I’m ready for the new shows to start in the fall just to find out who is/was inside the ambulance, Pratt or Sam … and what happened to Abby? The season finale episode last night was without a doubt the most intense I have ever watched on any show. The show itself was sorta slow to start but every scene left me asking a question that I knew would be answered within the next couple of scenes so I stayed interested. When the bumper sticker was shown on the bumper of the ambulance I knew there would be some significance but I wasn’t sure what it would be until the very end … when they showed the ambulance out on the street, away from the hospital, and zoomed to the bumper sticker again … I knew a ‘life changing’ event was about to occur … and it did … In the event that you missed it make sure you check out the two minute clip on the NBC website to see what I’m talking about. ER is one of those shows that you can miss a couple of weeks but pick right back up when you start watching it again … almost. If I miss an episode I’m sometimes left wondering who did what, or what happened, or where someone ended up but the answers to those questions will eventually be answered.

Elmo Snuggles

Elmo Snuggles, originally uploaded by NC_Belle36.

We had tried everything a mind could think of to get Lil Man sleeping through the night again and nothing seemed to work … UNTIL … we found this really cute Elmo bedding set. We changed Lil Man’s crib to a Lil’ big boy toddler bed last weekend and he loved having a Lil’ big boy bed. At least now he was able to crawl in and out of his bed without assistance but he still didn’t seem ‘enthused’ about sleeping in his bed. I knew this had to change and rather than force him into his own bed I chose to ‘entice’ him to sleep in his bed and did this with the new Elmo bedding set. Lil Man absolutely adores Elmo so I knew this was the best option and choice … and it worked. I bought the set on Saturday, took it home, washed it and put it on his bed. When it came bedtime Saturday night he was ready for bed and slept through the night … snuggling with Elmo!!  See more photos here

Doctor Visits and Such

The past three weeks have been like a blur. Going through the motions but not really caring. Everything was starting to get lighter and facing every day was getting easier then yesterday happened … YESTERDAY I realized just how much I totally despise Dr. C’s nurse. I wish I could just come right out and say “I HATE THAT &$@*%” but that would be lowering my standards and I refuse to do that for her. Let me explain …

Most who read here regularly know my daughter had a miscarriage about three weeks ago. During her prenatal visit before the miscarriage she had the usual realm of ‘first visit’ tests. Her Pap came back with some abnormalities so she was scheduled for a Colposcopy. That of course was rescheduled from it’s original date to yesterday … they wanted to give her time to physically heal from the miscarriage. We went to the doctor’s office yesterday and sat through the coming and going of several pregnant bellies. You could see the hurt and sadness in Stasha’s eyes. It broke my heart to see the look of disappointment and pain … the look and feel that we have dealt with for three weeks now. I choked back tears more than once … I knew I needed to be strong for her … or at least I thought I did.

The nurse from hell finally called Stasha back and she grabbed me to go with her. She had been through enough and even though she is grown she still wanted her mama beside her. Anyway … Nurse Hell put Stasha on the scales and told her she had lost a couple of pounds which she so noted on Stasha’s chart. She then told Stasha to go into the bathroom and catch a urine sample. That threw us both because we couldn’t understand why they needed a urine sample to do a Colposcopy. Stasha went anyway and of course she couldn’t pee … she never could pee on demand. Nurse Hell told her she had to have the urine sample before they could do the Colposcopy. Stasha was getting irritated and finally demanded to know why Nurse Hell needed a urine sample to which Nurse Hell replied … (are you sitting down?) … “We need a urine sample to do a pregnancy test” THAT’S WAS THE LAST STRAW!!! Stasha got that ‘are you stupidly out of your mind’ look on her face and said “I’m not pregnant” to which Nurse Hell told her “that may be so but we’ve still got to do a pregnancy test before we can do this procedure.” Stasha was so upset and told Nurse Hell that she hadn’t been doing anything to be pregnant and that she couldn’t pee. Nurse Hell left the room and came back with a cup of water telling Stasha to drink while she did her vitals and continue to drink until she could pee. It was so sad to see Nurse Hell continue to force an issue that was a waste of time and money.

My heart broke to see the pain in Stasha’s eyes but at the same time my heart was beaming to see her stand up the way she did to Nurse Hell. Stasha finally relented and gave Nurse Hell a urine sample which of course resulted in a negative pregnancy test. Not once did Nurse Hell offer to say I’m sorry but it’s standard protocol to do a pregnancy test before doing this procedure which would have made sense to Stasha. Instead she just let it float casually without regard to anything Stasha had just been through or to how she felt.

We’ll get the test results from the Colposcopy in about a week but Dr. C said he didn’t think there was anything to be real concerned about. He said he only found three very small spots which didn’t look like anything to be overly concerned about. At least he was compassionate to what Stasha has been through and once again reassured her that it was nothing she had done that caused the miscarriage. He told her he was very sorry it had happened and told her there was absolutely no reason why she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant again and have a successful pregnancy … just like she did with Lil Man. Even though Stasha really likes Dr. C I believe that when/if she becomes pregnant again we will be going with Dr. B for OB care. He did the D & C after the miscarriage and Stasha did like him a lot. He also specializes in high risk pregnancy and since the miscarriage with the abnormal Pap Stasha would be considered high risk.

That was all emotional and by the time we got home we were both drained. I made dinner, did some laundry and crashed in front of the TV. About the time I got comfortable a friend of Heather’s came by with her baby. Naomi is about 8 weeks old now and she is soooo tiny and cute. I was cuddling her when Lil Man decided he wanted to cuddle with Nana too. I got him up in my lap, him on one side, Naomi on the other. He laid his little head on my chest then laid one of his arms across Naomi then he leaned in ever so gentle and gave her a baby kiss on her head … like we do him … well here come the water works. It was all so sweet and innocent and so touching. At such a young age he realized the need to be gentle with Naomi and to give her easy loves rather than his big little boy squeezes. It only took a few minutes for him to decide he’d had enough and was ready to move on to other things but those few sweet innocent moments … for me … were priceless.

Now it’s on to the weekend with a world of things to do … and no desire to do them!
